Millennium Steel of Texas (MSTX) Coil Warehouse Expansion, Building 12

Toyota Manufacturing Plant San Antonio

This design-build project involved providing structural engineering services for a 55,000-SF addition to a Toyota supplier. The project consists of a pre-engineered metal building superstructure and supports of two 100-ton capacity overhead cranes. Column and crane loads are supported by reinforced concrete strap beams, spanning two piers each.

The building also contains a pit for a press and tunnels to convey metal scrap pieces for recycling. The pit has depths of up to 20 feet. The project also included foundations for a press imparting a dynamic load of 970,000 pounds. Several pits up to 20-feet deep were required, as well as several hundred linear feet of trenches for hydronic and electrical lines. The plates covering the trenches were designed to support a forklift.
