Burbank High School Addition & Renovation

San Antonio ISD

R-S-C-R provided the structural design and detailed structural drawings for the addition and renovation project at one of San Antonio’s oldest high schools, dating back to 1945. The project involved a new 300,000-SF, three-story building, as well as a new auditorium to replace aging campus facilities. Both are connected by a three-span pedestrian bridge over the campus bus loop. The classroom building includes general and science classrooms, a learning stair, library and kitchen with cafeteria. The auditorium renovations include a new lobby, black box and major renovations to the audio system.

Structural systems included the classroom building (cast-in-place concrete supported on drilled piers), auditorium addition (cast-in-place concrete pan joist system supported on drilled piers with structural steel columns and roof framing) and bridge (structural steel trusses with a composite concrete floor system).
