Davenport High School
Comal ISD
R-S-C-R provided the structural design and detailed structural drawings for this new construction project. The 312,795-SF high school was designed as a progressive environment with a variety of flexible learning spaces, including classrooms and laboratories for traditional instruction, 21st-century instruction and career and technical education programs.
Amenities include a fine arts wing with a performing arts center, black box theater, dance studio and a multipurpose student union. A competition gymnasium, field house and a 6,000-seat stadium surround the comprehensive campus.
The structural system consists of a reinforced concrete pan-joist system supported on drilled piers. The second floor beams are posttensioned due to the spans. The roof framing consists of dovetail acoustical metal deck, bar joists and wide flange beams. Special attention was paid to the mall, as the roof framing consists of exposed steel trusses.
